The first "Festival of Creative Sounds" that took place on September 21-23 still lingers softly in our minds. Each day had its own distinctive events, bringing out the different qualities present in the creative use of sound. As such, the many vivid sounds were heard and experienced by everyone.
Friday evening at the Asslar Thermal Bath was an impressive beginning of the festival. More than 50 people relaxed together in one communal swimming pool, a variety of exotic musical instruments positioned around the pool. Sound artists engaged in spontaneous, musical dialogues, utilizing space, water, and imagination to enhance their dialogue between space and water. Those in the water were inspired by the enchanting music to dance artfully. The dancers formed a circle and began to sing, turning all the while. As one, they swam and sang endlessly, a kaleidoscope of colour and sound, until finally they had created a current strong enough to sweep them all away. The water continued to churn long after everyone had left.
Saturday began with an atmospheric morning. The visitors were welcomed, the staff members were honored, and a remarkable presentation on slow life was given, followed by numerous workshops on sound. The guests, eager to learn, disappeared and reappeared from seminar rooms, exchanging their impressions and opinions during the breaks and than immersed themselves into the next sound experience.
Dealers from Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and all regions of Germany were present. Music therapists, interested musicians, educationalists, and healing practitioners attended; among them the workshop leaders and sound artists themselves mingled. Everyone marveled at the beautiful new sounds coming forth from the many unique instruments.
Saturday night, in the beautiful Heuchelheimer church, three musicians performed the "Concert of Soft Tones". Because of the naturally amplifying way in which the church was built, very little electronic amplification was needed. The musicians played together, as well as on their own. Jazz mingled with tribal music, transitioning into contemporary, experimental, and then vocal harmony.
Sunday began silently and transitioned into different sound workshops and activities, such as playing healing instruments or for one another. Enthusiasm reigned supreme, evolving into spontaneous sessions and where new sounds were felt. Interest in the instruments and how to play them was high. All of the visitors' ears were filled with sound, and there was much to enjoy.
At the end, the 7-headed Yalla Babo Orchestra played powerful rhythms, chants and songs. They played so well that it was impossible to stand without moving. Joyful dancing and lightness were everywhere.
For days afterwards, the phrases "Do it again", and "It was wonderful" were often heard from friends, customers and musicians alike. It was an event with high-class workshop leaders, courses, and musical instruments that strengthed and disseminated the knowledge and wisdom of sound and healing. It was a wonderful, unforgettable event.
A very important aspect of our experience during the three day show was the network of people who work with sound. Bridges were built, new friendships established, and old again renewed. Exciting and interesting ideas have already been announced; the soil is tilled. We look forward to your ideas and will remain in contact. Until next time!
Thank you very much to all of the workshop leaders, customers, visitors, staff members, dealers, friends, and helpers for their contributions and good hard work. Thank you all for coming; your interest and openness have made this experience a pleasure.
We wish you happy holidays with much pleasure with sound!
